Our Story

Born from island life

Mamuli by Rambu began with a simple idea: to make everyday life by the ocean a little easier.

Originally from Sumba and now calling Bali home, Rambu is a mother of two raising her family close to the beach.

Like many beach days with young children, leaving the house meant carrying everything — towels, clothes, sunscreen, snacks, toys and all the little essentials that somehow always come along.

Rambu wanted something simpler.

So she created it for herself.

A generous beach towel that could transform into a bag, carry the essentials, and even become a pillow when it was time to slow down.

That first towel bag was made for her own family and her own way of life.

It would eventually become the beginning of Mamuli by Rambu.

Rooted in Sumba

The name Mamuli carries Rambu's heritage with it.

The Mamuli is a traditional ornament from Sumba, deeply rooted in the island's culture and passed through generations. Its distinctive shape is traditionally associated with femininity and carries broader meanings connected to identity, ancestry and tradition.

For Rambu, choosing the name Mamuli was a way of keeping a piece of Sumba at the heart of a brand born from her life in Bali.

Its recognizable silhouette has since become part of the visual identity of Mamuli by Rambu — a symbol connecting the brand to where her story began.

Why Rambu?

Rambu isn't a name created for the brand.

It's her name.

And it is also a name carried by her daughter.

Mamuli by Rambu brings those two stories together: the cultural roots Rambu inherited from Sumba and the family she is raising today in Bali.

A connection between where she comes from and what she hopes to pass forward.

From one idea to a growing collection

In 2025, what began as something Rambu had created for herself started finding its way into the hands of others.

The towel bag became the first Mamuli by Rambu product and remains the signature piece of the collection today.

But the idea behind Mamuli was never limited to one product.

What started with the towel bag has naturally grown into a collection inspired by everyday island life — from towels and hair towels to children's ponchos and other pieces designed for the beach, the home and the moments in between.

Some of the smaller creations have also grown from a desire to make better use of the materials already available from production, giving leftover fabric a new purpose rather than letting it go to waste.

Every new piece starts from the same place as the very first one: a real need, a simple idea and the desire to create something both beautiful and genuinely useful.

Made for life by the ocean

Mamuli by Rambu wasn't born from a business plan.

It began with a mother, two children, a life close to the ocean and a product Rambu simply wished existed.

That spirit still guides the brand today.

Pieces made to be used, carried, lived with and taken along — from slow mornings at home to long days at the beach and adventures far beyond Bali.

Made in Bali. Rooted in Sumba.
